Kerryn Fields (Melbourne)
A night dedicated to the kaha of women and song. Charlotte Yates, Mahina from Big Belly Woman and Kerryn Fields weave together a cabaret showcase of songs that tell their stories to date.
Wellington based recording artist Charlotte Yates has headlined at arts festivals across the
country and toured extensively with fellow singer/songwriter Mahinarangi Tocker. Charlotte has helmed major projects to turn the poetry of Hone Tuwhare and James K Baxter into music, and released her fifth solo album, Beggar's Choice, in 2008.
Mahina-Ina Kaui is well known as the lead vocalist for Big Belly Woman and Koruatahi. A talented recording artist and composer, she co-produced and featured on Pacific Curls' albums, Mothers' Line and Pacific Swing. Mahina is an accomplished player of taonga puoro, koauau and nguru.
Kerryn Fields is a Melbourne based kiwi singer/songwriter who bares her lyrics through the guitar with a voice influenced by Tracy Chapman. In 2009, Kerryn released her first live EP, and then sang her way into Melbourne's Top 10 Unsigned Artists of the Year.
Throughout the evening the women will pay tribute to Mahinarangi Tocker by performing a personal selection of her inspirational songs.
