The Waitakere Branch of the Royal Forest & Bird Protection Society invites you to a musical variety concert at Glen Eden's Playhouse Theatre to raise funds for returning threatened native birds including Kokako to the Waitakere Ranges.
Special Guest Artists include:
Jennifer Ward-Lealand accompanied by Grant Winterburn
Kamran Khodaverdian (Iranian Pianist)
Greg Patel (tenor)
Show West Singers (musical director Judy King)
Together with supporting artists.
Proceeds from this event will be used to return threatened native bird species, including kokako, to the Ark in the Park. In 2009 and 2010 kokako have been released, and in December 2010 the first kokako chick was born in the Waitakere ranges, since 80 years. Funds raised will be used to add to their number and maintain the special nest protection to keep these birds safe from rats stoats and other introduced predators. We control predators such as rats, possums, feral cats and stoats on 2000 hectares of parkland at the Cascade Kauri (Waitakere Ranges Regional Park), while weeds which take over native bush are also being targeted. Ark in the Park is a community environmental restoration project, a partnership between the Waitakere Branch of Forest & Bird and the Auckland Council.
