ST PETER'S COLLEGE with Girls from Marist and St. Mary's College's are proud to present...
'Les Miserables' School Edition
'Do You Hear the People Sing?'
We are honoured to bring you 'Les Miserables' the School's Edition of this powerful and compelling, record breaking show. It is a little shorter (2 hours 15 min.) but all of the vital content and songs are in tact and this production has as much impact as the 3 hour original.
The sweeping score filled with song after song which can only be described as 'inspired directly from heaven' carries this epic story authored by the celebrated French 'national treasure' Victor Hugo. Songs such as 'I Dreamed a Dream' made famous by Susan Boyle's smash release is just one of them.
Jean Valjean is released after spending 19 years in prison for stealing a loaf of bread. As a result, he is a bitter and desperate man. Due to the kindness of a Bishop, Valjean is able to find God and is motivated to be a good man. Eventually he rises to become the Mayor of Montreuil-sur-Mer and a factory owner. Unfortunately, he has also broken his parole and Javert, a policeman, is after him. As one of his workers, Fantine, is about to die, Valjean promises to take care of her daughter, Cosette. After Valjean purchases Cosette from the money-grubbing Thenardiers (where she had been lodging), the show moves years into the future where Cosette has become a woman. With a student Revolution ensuing in the flavour of the French Revolution, Cosette falls in love with a student revolutionary, Marius. After a battle, Marius falls unconscious in the sewer of Paris. Before Valjean dies, he manages to save Marius so that Marius and Cosette can be wed. The ghosts of those passed away return to give hope for the future hope for those who live good lives and hold true to faith even under the most adverse and challenging of circumstances.
