FEMALE COMPANY, Auckland's all-female theatre production troupe, are presenting REVENGE OF THE AMAZONS, in association with a bra collection drive for Auckland City Mission.

Hippolyta, Queen of the Amazons, is getting married to Theseus. But the feminist theatre troupe, The Fallopian Thespians, are not happy. Meanwhile Helena, Hermia, Demetrius and Lysander are lost in the woods, and it's Titania who leads the fairies in their meddling to sort out the lovers' quarrels. She also has an ulterior motive for her plans in the shape of her adulterous hubby, leading to a hilarious... Well you'll have to see the show to find out!

REVENGE OF THE AMAZONS, by Wellington playwright Jean Betts, reworks Shakespeare's comedic classic A MIDSUMMER'S NIGHT DREAM. The play hilariously, yet poignantly, examines the patriarchal society in which we live. The connection with the Shakespearean text is still evident, yet lovers of this text and those who don't know it alike will enjoy REVENGE OF THE AMAZONS.
