Maggie, 'the Cat', is in a loveless, celibate marriage to the handsome but burdened and repressed younger son Brick who wants nothing more than to get drunk. Mae, 'the monster of fertility' is married to the successful yet boring older son Gooper who wants to inherit his father’s estate. Both women and one son are ambitious: Maggie for herself; Gooper and Mae for themselves and their children. Gooper and Brick’s parents, Big Mama and Big Daddy, are deceived by both sons, but are yet aware of the many lies that surround them. Over the course of the evening lies surface, truth is sometimes told and one of the daughters appears triumphant. But is her triumph merely another lie?
