It’s 30 years since multiple award winning writer Victor Rodger’s first play, Sons, made its debut at the Court Theatre in Otautahi.
Since then he has had 12 plays produced nationally and internationally including his smash hit 2013 play Black Faggot which was thie year revived in Ōtautahi and Tamaki Makaurau. Victor’s work has had a strong focus on issues such as race, sexuality and identity.
During his three hour workshop, Victor will offer participants thirty tips to represent the 30 years he has been writing for theatre. Victor will also lead participants through three in-class writing exercises which focus on Character, Plot and Point of View.
This writing workshop is suitable for newcomers as well as experienced writers.

In 2025, as part of Breaking Ground, 2024 Arts Foundation Te Tumu Toi Laureate Victor Rodger ONZM, 30 Years. 30 Tips. is a 3 hour workshop taking place as part of the international Indigenous writers’ festival Breaking Ground 2025.
30 Years. 30 Tips. will take place from 9.30AM-12.30PM on Saturday November 29 2025 at Te Auaha.
