Maunga Mayhem 2026 - Back and Bigger than Ever!

Maunga Mayhem is an obstacle adventure race like no other, set in the heart of Maungatapere’s stunning subtropical landscape. Whether you’re young or young at heart, you’ll be challenged to conquer a series of action-packed obstacles designed to test your strength, stamina, and sense of adventure.

This year’s event takes place at the breathtaking Land of the Lotus on Mangakahia Road, Maungatapere. (Parking via Mannington Road, followed by a scenic stroll to the race centre). 

Prepare to stomp through muddy swamps, scramble over rolling hills, and power through bush tracks as you crawl, climb, balance, jump, splash, and leap your way to the finish line. Major and Midi participants will also get to experience a unique trek through lush water gardens and banana plantations, complete with incredible views over the Mangakahia Valley.

With four race options catering to all ages, families, and workmates, it’s a day packed with challenge, fun, and unforgettable memories.

Important Race Requirements
To compete in Maunga Mayhem 2026, all competitors MUST:

• Read and accept our event waiver and release statement. All guardians must accept a waiver and release statement on behalf of the competitor (if competitor is under 18).
• Be registered before their race briefing.
• Attend their race safety briefing.
• Wear closed footwear throughout the event
• No waiver or shoes or registration or briefing - no race.

Refund Policy 
All tickets are strictly non-refundable but may be transferable at the committee’s discretion.

Race Information

• A mandatory safety briefing will be held 15 minutes before each race in front of the main stage. All participants must be registered and present for this briefing.
• The top three finishers in each race will be recognised at the prizegiving, held after the final race at approximately 12:15 pm. There will also be awesome spot prizes and raffles up for grabs!
• Food and refreshments will be available for purchase on site - CASH only.
• Footwear is compulsory. We recommend securing your shoes with tape and wearing clothing that can handle plenty of mud and mayhem!

Registration
All competitors must be registered before attending their race briefing.

• Early registration and collection of race packs and wristbands will be available at Maungatapere School on Friday, 13 March 2026, from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm.
• The event registration tent will be open from 8:30 am on race day for final check-ins.

Event Location
Maunga Mayhem is run by the Maungatapere School Parent Teachers Association and will take place at Land of the Lotus in Maungatapere. Click here for the map showing how to find it (only 15 minutes) from Whangarei.
