Year 13 Drama at Epsom Girls Grammar School presents “The End of the Golden Weather” by Bruce Mason
“I invite you to join me in a voyage into the past, to that territory of the heart we call childhood.”
Inspired by playwright Bruce Mason’s own childhood, The End of the Golden Weather chronicles the friendship between a 12-year-old child and the wild-limbed Firpo, a dreamer and a social outcast. Through the child’s eyes we see the wonder of life on a perfect beach, in a perfect New Zealand, during a perfect summer. It's a world of magic and transformation, where anything can happen and miracles seem possible.
Since its first performance in 1960, the play has become a cultural touchstone, exploring what it means to be a New Zealander. Year 13 Drama at Epsom Girls Grammar School are proud to present their vision of The End of the Golden Weather, exploring elements of gender and race within the quintessential Kiwi classic.
