Gattaca is a science fiction film written and directed by New Zealand born Andrew Niccol, made in 1997. Starring Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman, with Jude Law appearing in a supporting role. It is set in the not-too-distant future ruled by eugenics. Society has categorised Vincent Freeman as an insufficient human being given his genetic make-up and he has become one of the underclass of humans. To realise his dream of going into space he learns how to deceive DNA testing to overcome genetic discrimination.
