‘Stories are wild creatures, the monster said. When you let them loose, who knows what havoc they might wreak?’

On publication, Patrick Ness’ novel A Monster Calls became a bestseller with children and adults alike with its dazzling insight into love, loss and healing.

Kristin School now presents the New Zealand Premiere of the moving and imaginative play based on the award-winning novel. This adaptation for the stage has been described as ‘a beautiful, heartbreaking show’, ‘extraordinarily moving’ and ‘truthful, hopeful and human.’ This opportunity to see this play for the first time in New Zealand is not to be missed.

Thirteen-year-old Connie and her mum have managed just fine since her dad moved to America. But now her mum’s very sick and she’s not getting any better. Her grandmother won’t stop interfering and the kids at school won’t look her in the eye.

Then, one night, at seven minutes past midnight, Connie is woken by something at her window. A monster has come walking. It’s come to tell Connie tales from when it walked before. And when it’s finished, Connie must tell her own story and face her deepest fears.
