44 Degrees South Productions presents
The Chathams, a new play by two of New Zealand's
poorest comedians,
Toby Leach and
Jonny Moffatt, directed by
Eyrn Wilson.
Performing March 2011 at The Basement Theatre as part of the Auckland Fringe Festival,
The Chathams tells the story of a place that has more millionaires and Harley Davidsons per capita than anywhere else on the planet (despite the fact most roads are not sealed).
The Chatham Islands lie 800km east of Christchurch and it is said
'they are literally perched on the edge of the world' (scientific research shows, however, that the Earth is round). With a population of around 700, Chatham Island men outnumber women two to one and it is the only place in New Zealand where it is legal to hunt and BBQ the weka.
So, join us as we time travel 45 minutes back into the future and blow the lid off this land that time and New Zealand forgot.
