THE FEAST is a season of three dynamic new theatre pieces presented by up-and-coming Auckland based companies Le Petit Workshop, Reviver’s Fire, and Nikki Bennett and Company. The shows will be presented as three delectable metaphorical meals, with rich puppetry, mouth watering Pacific theatre, and delightful clown. Accompanying this visual feast will be carefully designed edible treats that compliment the varied flavours of each show. A mouth-watering feast of fresh theatre and food.
In conjunction with The Basement, THE FEAST will offer one night during the season that includes a bespoke three-course meal. Working with the chefs of pop-up restaurant POPdining, THE FEAST’s companies will design a dish tailored to each show, to be served in each interval.
The Soldier's Heart and The Feathered Girl, devised by Le Petit Workshop, explores an original folk tale centered on the journey of a girl born covered in feathers and a stolen heart. This visually stunning show consists of a profusion of 3D and shadow puppetry, striking characters, and magic to heighten flavour. Stuffed with a sweet and sour love story and garnished with authentic originality.
Halfatasi, served by Refiner's Fire Collective, consists of European theatrical tradition marinated in the flavours of Samoan movement, song and tradition, served with a side of history and drizzled with identity and crisis. Refiner’s Fire will explore what it means to be born into two cultures, Samoan and European, and the conflicts that arise when you attempt to define your identity as both. Your taste buds will zing as the clash of European and Samoan flavours create a mouth-wateringly fresh theatrical voice.
The Clown That Ran Away From The Circus, presented by Nikki Bennett, tells the tale of a delightfully naive clown who runs away from the circus to explore the big, and often terrifying, city. Immersed in the marinade of play, projection, and mask, these diverse flavours spark with elements of surprise and finish the night with great satisfaction.
