ORANGUTAN is a story about curiosity and survival. Set in the native rainforest of Borneo, an orangutan silently witnesses extraordinary moments in human history. The tale, told through Balinese mask and puppetry, gently begins to unravel the past.
Created and performed by Alice Canton, the show weaves the stories of her family with the vivid images and experiences of her adventures through South East Asia, revealing a mesmerizing, absurd and tragic tale.
ORANGUTAN questions the democracy of decolonisation, post-war trauma, and mining in the Asia-Pacific inside a rich theatrical world full of grace, power, and opposable thumbs.
