Te Matatini Kapa Haka Aotearoa, in conjunction with Waitaha rohe is proud to present Te Matatini 2015 - Christchurch.

From 5 - 8 March 2015, 45 teams representing the best kapa haka from New Zealand and Australia will compete for the honour of being crowned the best of the best.

The competition is held over four days and is the culmination of years of passionate commitment, dedication and hard work for thousands of kapa haka performers, their families and supporters.

Held every two years, Te Matatini National Kapa Haka Festival is a premiere cultural event in New Zealand and the world’s largest celebration of Māori traditional performing arts.  Over four days audiences can experience the best kapa haka in the world, taste Māori and local delicacies and shop for Māori arts and crafts.

The Festival is a whānau friendly, smoke, alcohol and drug free event.  It is an opportunity for all people, regardless of culture, background or age to come together, to share and celebrate the richness of Māori culture.

Te Matatini 2015 – Christchurch Festival will begin with a public pōwhiri on 4 March 2015 at North Hagley Park, Christchurch.  The kapa haka competition will take place over three pool rounds from 5 – 7 March 2015.  The top 3 qualifiers from each pool will go on to compete in the Finals day competition on 8 March 2015.

We invite you to come celebrate the 22nd Te Matatini Festival and experience the timeless tradition and spectacle of kapa haka.
