      SEVEN DEADLY MONOLOGUES

New play unearths the haunting side of sin in humanity

A series of monologues that explores the concept of the seven deadly sins from seven strange individuals recounting their tales of woe.

The familiar vices of human nature will be explored through playwright Benjamin Teh’s disturbingly insightful take on what each deadly sin might actually be about. Lust, Envy, Pride, Wrath, Sloth, Gluttony and Greed will take human form at Maori theatre, Te Pou this April.

The premise of each monologue is simple. What if lust is something that can be taught? What if outsiders feel pride for one who is not prideful? What if wrath is born out of a deep sadness, and sloth accepts fate in the worst of ways? What if gluttony is a way of life, and greed is a tool to relive euphoric joy, would it not just be the same as a drug habit?

With an eager cast, talented writer and director, and a script hell-bent of pushing boundaries, the creative team invites the public to the season of The Seven Deadly Monologues. A study, in what it means to be human.
