      SWEENEY TODD SCHOOL EDITION
The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
      A Musical Thriller

Take one wrongfully jailed barber hungry for revenge and mix slowly with a diabolically entrepreneurial meat-pie vendor. Add a morally void judge, two young lovers and a crazy beggar woman with a secret. Marinate with the exceptional musical sophistication of Stephen Sondheim, then bake at a high emotional temperature and wait for the crust to burn…

This mix of horror, opera, comedy and British musical hall is one of the greatest contributions to the musical theatre genre.

We welcome you to Sondheim’s wonderful musical world in our rendition of Sweeney Todd - School Edition.

Please Note:  There is no official rating for the Sweeney Todd School Edition.  While some of the more disturbing scenes and text in the original version have been removed, the premise (that Sweeney Todd kills people and turns them into pies) remains a central part of the story line.  While presented comically and even absurdly at times – using songs in the style of the British Music Hall - the content is mature. The production team suggests that students in their senior years at secondary school are an appropriate audience.  Students in Year 9 and 10 - after conversation with their parents as to the function of theatre and the ‘suspension of disbelief’ - are also encouraged to see the show. We hope that families will discuss the challenges of theatre and appreciate the work as one of the finest and most highly regarded pieces in the music theatre genre.
