Breakbread celebrates the power of stories and food as a way to build community and integrate individuals into NZ society.
A panel of speakers will present to you a letter they have written.
Stories are held together by a common thread.
Jacinda Ardern (Labour MP), Mike McRoberts (TV3) and Koasorn Tun (Refugee Mon state) will be the first to launch the Breakbread series.
The topic will be "A letter to my 11 year old self"
Follow the story through a featured short film, of a refugee displaced from Burma who has integrated into NZ society.
Narrated by Naing Min, his story of fleeing Myanmar (Burma), living illegally in Thailand and Malaysia before seeking refuge in NZ. His journey from Mangere refugee camp through to one of Auckland’s top eateries in Ponsonby. A food collaboration with Naing Min, Nai Loot and Tom Hishon from Orphans Kitchen are featured in the film.
Finally, taste the culture for yourself in the form of a culinary collaboration.
Breakbread is about stories, culture, food and travelling in your own city.
