THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE 

A hilarious farce of sentimental pirates, bumbling policemen, dim witted young lovers and an eccentric Major General.    

Alexandra Musical Society is delighted to bring to you this updated version of the famous Gilbert and Sullivan classic comedy, The Pirates of Penzance.  

Directed by the acclaimed Bryan Aitken, with Musical Direction from Sam van Betuw (his debut), choreography from the delightful Judith Campbell, and our very own live orchestra, this is a show certain to entertain.

This delightful tale tells the story of young Frederic (Nick Goudie), who has mistakenly been apprenticed to an ineffectual raucous band of pirates by his nursemaid Ruth (Jules Molloy), who being hard of hearing, misunderstood his father’s wish for him to be a ship's pilot, so was signed up to the pirates instead! As he turns twenty-one Frederic disavows the pirates’ lifestyle and falls for the beautiful songbird Mabel (Natalija Krsinic), daughter of Major General Stanley (Duncan Anderson).

The Pirate King (Grant Radka), with his side-kick Sam (Blake Luff), discovers that General Stanley has lied to them about being an orphan – to keep the pirates from steeling his belongings and carrying off his bevy of beautiful daughters! Outrage ensues.

With a lively cast of seasoned performers and talented new-comers, madcap antics, Frederic’s misplaced sense of duty and the not so ‘hot on the trail’ team of police lead by their inept Sergeant (Mark Templeton), preposterous logic generously applied to spice it up and of course a very ‘happily ever after’ conclusion, this show will appeal to the whole family.
