On 3rd February 1931 an Act of God reclaimed 3,000 hectares of seabed in two and a half minutes. Napier’s aquatic playground was no more, but its history since then is also a fascinating story.
This tour will take you around the fringes of the Inner Harbour to a dramatic hilltop lookout and into the normally inaccessible area where sailboats once cruised. You’ll also visit Park Island Cemetery and the community grave where most earthquake victims are buried. The tour concludes with afternoon tea in a private garden at Poriati where you’ll enjoy picturesque views over the harbour to Napier.
The tour includes afternoon tea.
