Auckland Youth Choir under the direction of Lachlan Craig is honoured to present the New Zealand premiere of James Whitbourn’s Annelies. This fourteen-movement work is the first adaptation of The Diary of Anne Frank as a large-scale choral work. Its portrayal of Anne’s life in hiding with her family offers both a narrative account and a personal reflection on the brutality of war, the enduring hope and beauty of the world, and Anne’s brave journey towards self-discovery as a growing young woman. The incredible contrasts and pathos within the music pay tribute to the profoundly memorable legacy of the diary, which has touched millions of people around the globe.

Gifted young soprano Bernice Austin joins the choir as soloist, alongside University of Auckland School of Music students Lauren Bennett (violin), Alex Eichelbaum (clarinet) and Tahee Kim (cello) as the chamber ensemble.

Premium ticket buyers have exclusive access to front-row table seating, drinks and nibbles. A light supper will also be available after the concert for all ticket holders. You will have the opportunity to chat with the performers, or simply enjoy the post-concert buzz.
