Daughters Of Heaven
By Michelanne Forster
Directed by Helen Mackenzie
Stagecraft is proud to bring Michelanne Forster’s tense exploration of one of New Zealand’s most notorious crimes to the stage in Daughters of Heaven.
Two teenage girls, Pauline Parker and Juliet Hulme, escape the mundane reality of their 1954 Christchurch surroundings and stagnant family lives into a fantasy world populated by the Hollywood stars and crooners of the day. Becoming increasingly obsessed with each other and their fantasy idols, the girls plot their escape to a glamorous kingdom; New York City. Only one thing stands in the way of their dream...... Pauline’s mother Honora. What followed shocked a nation, and plunged the girls and their families into a dark and harsh reality.
A tense and emotionally fraught drama, Daughters of Heaven traces the extraordinary events leading up to the murder of Honora Parker and the consequences and repercussions for two teenage girls lost in their own obsession and fantasy.
Join us in May at the Gryphon Theatre, Ghuznee Street for an evening of unmissable drama and an insight into a dark chapter in New Zealand history.
