Schizophrenia can be scary. It can be a scary cloud of delusions and anxiety which adds a certain air of uncertainty over your life. Like a holiday in Blackpool, schizophrenia can put you into a bit of a dark and stormy place. Metaphorically of course, I’m sure Blackpool is lovely.
Breathe attempts to lift that dark veil, bringing some much needed light and humour into schizophrenia. How will he do this? Who knows. But our performer as he wings his way through an hour of comedy, poetry, and music, as he attempts to understand his own mental state. His journey will take him through his childhood, through awkward and angsty teen years, and into a very awkward relationship with a receptionist named Pam. This journey of self-discovery will be no walk in the park. Other than the bit where he remembers a time he walked through a park. That’s a literal walk in the park. Anyway…
Breathe is glimpse into the subjective experiences of living with schizophrenia. Talking to yourself has a whole new meaning.
The event is recommended for ages 16 and up due to content around mental health and adult themes.
