For 2018, American Express Restaurant Month will feature a new event focused on a novel and sustainable 4 course Mexican feast designed especially for the event and featuring a selection of somewhat ‘crazy’ or unusual ingredients.

Besos Latinos chef, Luis Cabrera, who cooked for Barack Obama on his recent visit to New Zealand, was initially unsure if he should include crickets on his regular menu. It was a risky move to include something most NZ diners would see an inedible bug from the garden. In Mexico however, crickets are a delicacy and you might pay up to $100 in a fine dining restaurant for a cricket dish.  

In the end he took the punt and served them in a quesadilla in order to offer traditional food using a sustainable protein source. 

For American Express Restaurant Month this special menu will definitely incorporate some of nature’s finest sustainable and sometimes unusual ingredients and earthy proteins (a smattering of bugs and cactus!) matched with tequila for a guaranteed fun and loco night out.

Please note that there will be no vegetarian options available, but the menu is 100% gluten free.
