Written by Nikolai Gogol in 1836 and adapted by Jeffrey Hatcher in 2016, The Government Inspector is deeply silly satire of small-town corruption.

When the crooked leadership of a provincial Russian village discovers that an undercover inspector is coming to root out their commonplace corruption, the town weaves a web of bribery, lies, and utter chaos.

The play offers a hilarious portrait of bureaucracy gone mad—an idea with which audiences in 2018 are all too familiar.
