James Tibbles, one of New Zealand’s leading players of historic keyboards, will perform an organ recital at Holy Trinity Cathedral.
James is Coordinator of Early Music Studies at the University of Auckland, where he teaches historic keyboards. He has a substantial discography; his latest release, on the Paladino music label, is of J.S. Bach sonatas for viola da gamba and harpsichord, recorded last year with Laura Vaughn (Australia).
The Cathedral organ, designed, built and installed by Nicholson & Co Ltd of Malvern, UK, is the largest pipe organ in New Zealand, the largest church organ in Australasia, and the largest organ to be built in the UK since the 1940s. Installation of the organ was completed in June 2017.
