RAFIKI is about two young Kenyan women’s love and friendship, directed by Wanuri Kahiu who will be present for the screening. 

Inspired by Ugandan Monica Arac de Nyeko's 2007 Caine Prize Winning short story "Jambula Tree", Rafiki is the story of friendship and tender love that grows between two young women, Kena and Ziki, amidst family and political pressures. It screened in  Un Certain Regard at Cannes  in 2018 and has just screened at Toronto.

Wanuri Kahiu was born in Nairobi and studied producing and directing at UCLA’s school of theatre, film, and television. Her films include the shorts Ras Star (06) and Pumzi (09), and the features From a Whisper (09), Africa First: Volume One (10), Who Am I? (16), and Rafiki (18). (From Toronto).
