Jade String Quartet
Russia, politics, quotations. The Tsar’s ambassador asked Beethoven to include a Russian theme in each of the quartets he commissioned. Shostakovich’s wrote his Eighth Quartet in Dresden when the Cold War was at its coldest, where he had gone there to write music for a film about the city’s bombing during World War II. This quartet is a musical autobiography, in which the composer quotes from his earlier works as he reflected on a life lived in the face of terror and oppression.
Come and hear the Jade String Quartet play some of the greatest music ever written in Auckland’s newest, and perhaps most beautiful, chamber music venue: the glass-walled, copper-roofed Bishop Selwyn Chapel.
