      REPERTORY presents
      The ACB with Honora Lee
      by Kate De Goldi

The play, based on Kate de Goldi's story of an only child's determination to know and engage with her grandmother, is a gem. As Honora Lee (Margaret Foley) loses her memory and ability with language, Perry (Annabelle Talbot) creates new entries in the alphabet book she is compiling, with the help of the residents of Santa Lucia rest home, as a gift of love for her Gran.

Beautifully and sensitively written, subtle and quirky, the award-winning author’s book adapts well to the stage. The tragic nature of mental decline is balanced with the humour that occurs naturally from confusion.

The characters are engaging and real in a play where a young girl’s intuitive wisdom shows us a world where all living things, human and non-human, are accorded dignity and respect.

Kate De Goldi will be speaking at 7.00pm before the performance on Tues 9th Oct. This is included in the ticket price. Kate De Goldi is a New Zealand writer who has received both the 2011 Margaret Mahy Award and the 2011 Young Readers’ Award Corine Literature Prize. She is known for children’s literature and has also won awards for short story writing. She has won numerous other awards, including the Katherine Mansfield and American Express awards for short stories. She has held several major fellowships, including the 2010 Michael King Fellowship, and in 2001 was made an Arts Foundation Laureate.
