Walton is a failed writer and captain who sets out to explore the North Pole and expand his scientific knowledge in hopes of achieving fame.  During the voyage, the crew spots a dog sled driven by a gigantic figure.  A few hours later, the crew rescues a nearly frozen and emaciated man named Victor Frankenstein who shares his story of when his studies consumed him, leading to experiments that could benefit all humankind – or perhaps destroy it altogether.  

Victor builds a creature from reassembled dead bodies but the result is hideous.  He tries to dispose of the creature but it escapes and vows revenge on the creator who brought him to life.
