Aroha Music Society proudly presents Tres Cordes Piano Trio
Cathy Irons (violin)
Tomas Hurnik (cello)
Anna Maksymova (piano)
Tres Cordes are combined Spanish-French words, literally meaning ‘three strings’.
Initially a string trio, Tres Cordes was used to described the violin, viola and cello. Each trio player brought with them the unique colour of their stringed instrument – the violin, viola and cello, to blend as a unified whole.
In piano music, Tre Corde means to release the soft pedal, allowing the hammers to play on all of the strings belonging to each note, creating a rich, full, resonant tone - the sound Tres Cordes wish to achieve.
After an exciting performance of Grieg's Piano Concerto with guest pianist Anna Maksymova and the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra, Tomas and Cathy invited Anna Maksymova to play chamber music with them, to share and bring their mutual love of music to life with freshness, warmth and beauty.
Tres Cordes has been performing together since 2007 and their passion for chamber music has been shared with audiences around New Zealand. They were invited to the Nelson Composers Workshop in 2011, to perform and work alongside young NZ composers. The trio commissioned and premiered Anthony Ritchie's Easter Melancholy alongside artist Nathanael Provis' stunning large oil landscape paintings for a opening exhibition. Members of the group have performed as a string quartet in Tokyo at the NZ Embassy and their first CD “String Trio Sapphires” was broadcast on Plains FM in 2012 and Radio New Zealand Concert as the competition CD of the week in 2011. In 2015, they recorded the music for The Art of Recovery for the New Zealand International Film Festival and performed for the opening of the Chinese Spring Festival. Tres Cordes performed at the 2017 XXXIX Festival Internacional de Musica de Deia in Marllorca, Spain.
