'Thinning' a New Zealand play, written by Eli Kent is the quintessential coming of age kiwi story. First performed as part of the Young and Hungry festival in 2010 it’s about time for a brand new production.
The Thinning is a story that follows six friends, Isaac, Adam, Troy, Lily, Fraggle and Billie. They have all just graduated high school and now face the unknown horizons of University and entering into the 'Real World'. This group of friends head to an orchard for the summer to make some money and spend their last bit of youth enjoying each others company and creating new memories. Throughout a summer of wild experiences, intimacy, love, challenges, disagreement and unity these friends all form unique bonds with one another. They learn more about who they are and that sometimes you simply can't get along with everyone. This show depicts the development and growth of young adults in their transition into adulthood and the importance of trust, friendship, understanding and always, above all, love.
With six such poignant characters, each one has something you can relate to, whether it's the daily joys of life, or learning how to love. This is THE kiwi coming-of-age story.
