During NZ’s first lockdown Geoff Allen author of (Mrs Van Gogh & Sister Anzac)
Heard …
Jacinda Ardern say:
“If you are completely isolated, if you live alone but you have one person you have contact with it needs to be just that, a person you stay faithful to and they stay faithful to you in turn".
Geoff then wrote 3 short plays on the theme of people connecting while in lockdown.
1. ROMEO & JULIET DO VEGAS
HE is depressed because his production of Romeo and Juliet was cancelled due to covid. SHE never got the chance to play the part she understudied at High School. SHE wants to do it her way:
“What if … Romeo and Juliet survived and did really bad things in Las Vegas?”
2. D-DAY
Nina breaks into an apartment to rob it and finds an elderly woman sick and abandoned.
That night becomes D-Day in Nina’s life.
3. AIRPORT
Four kiwis trying desperately to get home, meet by chance in a South American airport.
FAITHFUL
“EVERY KIWI IN THE AUDIENCE WILL LAUGH, THEN CRY … THEN SING.”
