Rameka Tamaki is a Māori classical guitarist of Tūhoe and Maniapoto descent. He has been playing the guitar for over 18 years and began learning music by the likes of Fransisco Tarrega and Jimi Hendrix, having a wide understanding of different genres.
He studied classical guitar at the New Zealand School of Music in 2015 and recently finished with his Honours. During this time, he has performed in multiple events such as The Barber of Seville with The New Zealand Opera Company, the Ahi Kā Matariki Festival for 3 years, and the Tairawhiti Winter Concert Series.
The repertoire he has chosen to perform is a mixture of popular and sentimental pieces ranging from Fransisco Tarrega to Japanese composer Yukihiro Yoko, and is an introduction to some of the beloved repertoire of the classical guitar. His guitar is a cedar-top Lissarague, crafted by Kim Lissarague in the Blue Mountains of Australia, and is noted for its projection and resonance.
