Once upon a time…
… for that is how most stories begin, in a distant unspecified totalitarian world, we meet a writer—let’s call him Katurian Katurian—whose short stories echo a grimmer version of the original Brothers Grimm fairy tales. Trouble arises—as it always does—when a spate of child murders mirror his pitch-dark stories. Hauled in by authorities, he is questioned: has the hand merely written words or has the plot turned sinister?
Written by award-winning British playwright Martin McDonagh and presented in New Zealand for the first time with an all-POC cast, The Pillowman will run at the intimate Basement Theatre as part of the Matariki season.
Please arrive at least 15 minutes before show start time. Latecomers admitted into the theatre at Basement's discretion – no refunds will be given.
Unfortunately the Basement Studio space is not wheelchair accessible.
Trigger Warnings: This show contains foul language, violence and references to child abuse.
$15 and $20 Basement Mates tickets available for this event. Find out more about Basement Mates here.
