Pacific Dance Festival Presents Double Bill, Atali'i O Le Crezent by Villa Jr Lemanu and 'XY' Only by Raisedinland Iose.

Atali'i O Le Crezent (Sons of the CREZENT) is a dance work that invokes that audience to reminisce on their childhood and their community and that social mesh that created those memories. Growing up in a low socio-economic, Pasifika community is a blessing. The hyena laughs and loud mouths. The steak and cheese pies & Starz drinks. The touch-rugby on the street & streetlight curfew. The hidings followed by KFC. The hearty pese loku’s and awkward ways we say ‘I love you’ to family.

This is a memoir to good times and lessons, as well as a post-it note on the importance of our community. And the fear of losing all of it.

'XY' Only is a work that Iose has developed with a chorus from his congregation and continues to push the boundaries and rules with non-Pacific female dancers performing a traditional faataupati, which is usually reserved and performed by Samoan males. XY Only challenges a chorus to respond to the tradition where in formal settings, men (XY) are only permitted to speak. A confrontation that examines the strength of a woman and what they can and cannot do within the Samoan community.
