A passionate force in the kitchen, with an artistic soul, Harbour Society’s Director of Culinary, Chef Marty Kindleysides, presents a tasting menu this Restaurant Month that reflects his expansive career across the world. 

Heralding from a farming and hospitality family in rural Riverina, New South Wales, Chef Marty Kindleysides has always found himself having a close connection to the land and its provenance. At the age of sixteen, Marty cut his teeth in the kitchen of his hometown’s accomplished chef and watchful mentor, his brother, who guided him for four years, as he acquired traditional European cooking techniques. 

 From there, he delved into the culinary circuit of fine dining restaurants and luxurious hotels across Australia with a cameo in Japan which created the allure of travel and discovery for Marty. This attraction led to years of traveling the globe and leading the kitchens of numerous five-star luxury hotels across Asia including Seoul, Cebu, Japan, India and Thailand. Marty made the move to New Zealand in 2018 playing a vital role in the culinary operations at Skycity before becoming the Director of Culinary across luxury establishments SO/ Auckland and Sofitel Auckland. 

Outside of the kitchen, Chef Marty enjoys painting, sculpture, and photography to relax and balance his busy working life.  

Inspired by his incredible journey across Asia Pacific, Marty invites guests to enjoy a five-course tasting menu that artistically combines techniques from the West and flavours from the East in the elegant dining room of Harbour Society, on the 15th floor offering uninterrupted views of the Wāitemata Harbour.
