Enter a cultural waharoa (gateway) to a culinary adventure. Enter a culinary waharoa (gateway) to a cultural experience embraced by the mana (prestige), mouri (life vitality) and manawa (heart) of Zealandia Te Māra a Tāne.
Chef Joe McLeod (Ngāi Tūhoe) a tohunga (expert) in indigenous ingredients and Māori cuisine shares his passion for enhancing and preserving the indigenous culinary culture of Aotearoa New Zealand has joined forces with Zealandia’s Lead Ranger Bi Cultural Engagement Terese McLeod (Taranaki Whānui) and this year’s Wellingtonian of the Year Environment winner to create this exclusive one-off nine-course dining memory.
Each dish pays reverence to indigenous ingredients sourced by tikanga and kawa from across Aotearoa and Rēkohu/Wharekauri/The Chatham Islands. Each dish responds to a sculptural piece in the Wellington Sculptural Trust Collection to pay respect to the theme State of Flux where the collection of navigation and kinetic themes and construction is all about responding to change.
Ingredients are inspired by the Zealandia Te Māra a Tāne Kia Mouriora te Kaiwharawhara Sanctuary to Sea project where the domains of the forest, freshwater and ocean – from Sanctuary spaces through the freshwater corridor to sea spaces are conservationally and culinarily considered.
Each dish is paired with a selection of inuinu (beverages) wine and non-alcohol to compliment the menu.
Ticket includes: Nine-course dining experience with beverage matches.
Please note that seating for this event will be at shared tables, this means you may be seated with other people as well as the group you have booked with.
