      The Normal Heart
      By Larry Kramer
      Directed by Stanford Reynolds

This mostly autobiographical play by Larry Kramer was written in 1985, at the height of the AIDS crisis. Based on his experiences, the play depicts the beginning of the HIV-AIDS crisis in New York City in the early 1980s. It was nominated for an Olivier Award in 1985 for Best New Play, and has had several popular revivals, including September 2021 at the National Theatre in London.

Ned Weeks, the founder of an HIV support group, has a very specific style of advocacy: loud, public and unapologetic. He becomes frustrated at the lack of response from the public, the government, and also from his fellow gay men, including his closeted lover Felix Turner, who fear being loud supporters of the cause and outing themselves to a hostile society. Their differences of opinion lead to frequent arguments that threaten to undermine their mutual goal.
