        Passion, betrayal, violence and romance. These are the staples of a good ‘TeleNovela’. But what does a kiwi, non-spanish speaking, 3rd generation latina have in common with the outlandish characters she watches on her tv each night?

        Funny, observant, absurd and charming ‘Rich people cry too and other lessons I learned from Telenovela’ is a show that pays homage to the lavish world of Telenovela, while interrogating what it is to try to connect to a culture that you have never experienced.

         

        Part of Basement Theatre's 2022 Fringe 'Adaption' Provocation, as part of Auckland Fringe Festival 2022.
