Celebrated Māori performance company Hawaiki TŪ present their award-winning haka dance theatre work Taurite. Deeply grounded in Te Ao Māori, Taurite is a large-scale production that is centred around the art of balance and duality.
This captivating performance is a visceral embodiment that seamlessly blends the essence of kapa haka,
Māori movement and theatre, interwoven with a breathtaking backdrop of AV projections.

Taurite is designed for the whole whanau as an immersive experience that
harnesses the power of traditional Māori practices of restoring balance. Empowering people to approach the world with a profound sense of oneness within themselves and the world that surrounds them.

In this touring rendition, we join forces with some of the local powerhouse artists & kaihaka from Te Tai Tokerau who not only bring an embodied wairua from the north but also infuse the production with live music, adding a dynamic layer to the experience.
Taurite was commissioned by Auckland Live for the 2020 Fringe Town programme and was supported by Creative New Zealand, Q Theatre and TAPAC for the premiere in 2022. The 2nd Development of Taurite was supported by the Aotearoa New Zealand Festival of the Arts. This season is supported by Creative New Zealand and The Turner Centre.
