Indiana Williamson (Violin) and Matthew Seinafo (Piano) are an extraordinary musical duo who have been members of the Specialist Music Program, in conjunction with the University of Canterbury, since 2017 and 2019. Over the last 5 years together they have performed and competed with passion and have gained recognition, along with many awards, at regional and national levels.
Indiana Williamson has been playing the violin for almost 14 years, beginning at the age of 4. In 2017, he was accepted into the Specialist Music Program, in conjunction with the University of Canterbury. Indy has been awarded two scholarships into the Specialist Music Program as well as a scholarship from the Royal Overseas League of London. Indy has eagerly competed in the NZCT Chamber Music Contest multiple times, gaining recognition at both regional and national levels. He has been a first violinist in the University of Canterbury Youth Orchestra since the age of 14. In 2022, Indy was the concertmaster of the Burnside High School orchestra, where he led the orchestra to win best overall orchestra at the 2022 Aurora Festival, where he was also awarded best soloist.
Indy has just been awarded the Sir Edmund Hillary scholarship, for leadership and musical performance, at the University of Waikato where he will pursue a Bachelor of Music degree next year, under the guidance of Lara Hall.
Matthew Seinafo began learning the piano in 2017 at the age of 11 with Marnie Barrell. He has been a member of the Specialist Music Program since 2019 and In 2022, he achieved a Distinction in his ATCL piano diploma. He actively participates in masterclasses organized by the Registered Music Teachers Society and receives lessons from New Zealand's premier pianists, including Katherine Austin and Jian Liu. Matthew is also a passionate violist and has been a member of the University of Canterbury Youth Orchestra. Matthew was also invited to participate in a masterclass organized by the NZSO with Paul Lewis, who was touring New Zealand playing the complete Beethoven piano concertos. He's been a consistent contender in the NZCT Chamber Music contest since 2019, reaching the Regional finals for the past three years.
Next year Matthew will be pursuing a Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Auckland, under the guidance of Katherine Austin and Stephen De Pledge.
