Aroha Music Society, with generous support from the Dalton Trust, presents:

      Homecoming

A Salon Concert inspired by the triumphant 1922 New Zealand tour of Blenheim-born soprano Rosina Buckman (1881-1948) with cellist Adelina Leon (1885–1978) and pianist-composer Percy Kahn (1880-1966).

Performed by Soprano Rowena Simpson with Hammers & Horsehair

Jonathan Berkahn  (pianist) is an accompanist, soloist, chamber musician, choral conductor, composer and educator. He regularly accompanies Wellington’s Festival Singers and The Orpheus Choir, and is organist and choir master at St James’ Anglican Church in Lower Hutt. He has a degree in composition from Victoria University, an honours degree in keyboard performance, and a PhD in musicology.

Robert Ibell (cellist) was a member of the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra from 1993 to 2019. He is now a cello and double bass teacher, chamber music coach, adjudicator and freelance performer. Robert is a member of the Aroha String Quartet, Hammers & Horsehair, the Papaioea Piano Trio and indie/folk/rock band Milkthistle

Rowena Simpson (soprano) performs in chamber music and opera, and collaborates on new projects that connect classical music with the land and its performers. She studied and worked in The Netherlands from 1997-2006 and since her return has sung with many groups including NZ Opera, Pinchgut Opera, NZ Barok, The Queen’s Closet and Hammers & Horsehair.
