The Lady Demands Satisfaction
By Arthur M Jolly
Directed by James Kiesel
The Lady Demands Satisfaction is a “fierce, feminist farce”, a modern take on Moliére, written for the 2017/2018 Joining Sword and Pen competition with the Babes With Blades Theatre Company in Chicago, IL. Set in pomp-and-circumstantial England in the 1700s, It tells the story of young Trothe, who, due to a legal technicality arising from her father’s untimely death, must defend her home with the sword from any who challenge her. Unfortunately for her, she has no idea whatsoever how to fight.
What follows is a farcical romp driven by badass female protagonists and rife with comedy, mistaken identity, slapstick, and fighting with everything from swords, to soup ladles, to pokers, and anything else they can get their hands on.
