Step into the world of kapa haka with the Turner Centre's 9-week program led by Ngati Rehia's Rawi Pere and Crystal Harden.

Starting April 30th, immerse yourself in this cultural journey exploring Poi, Haka, Choral, Action Songs, and Entry Waiata, culminating in a performance on June 25th during Matariki week where you will take the stage on front of friends and whanau.

Supported by the Bay of Islands Whangaroa Community Board, this opportunity is a koha donation and is open to participants from all cultures, aged 16 and above, with no prior experience necessary.

Limited to 40 spaces, participants must commit to all 9 sessions, including the final performance. Your koha donation will support venue rental, technicians, and materials. Join us to strengthen community bonds and promote inclusivity through the transformative power of kapa haka.

      The Tutors

Mother and daughter Rawi Pere and Crystal Harden (Ngati Rehia ) are the organisers of Te Hui Ahurei o Ngati Rehia, a kapa haka festival for primary and intermediate-aged students across the wider Ngati Rehia rohe. They believe that adults benefit from kapa haka just as much as tamariki and rangatahi and they want to share their culture, skills and knowledge with the wider Whangaroa and Bay of Islands community. “Kapa haka brings people into a safe place in unity, and grows that whanaungatanga, that sense of belonging."  Crystal Harden
