Tough love can only hold so much together…

Mum’s Sugar Club is proud to be partnering with Auckland Pride to present Love Makes the Bed It Lies In, written and directed by Faith Carolyn Ward, co-directed by Rory Janssen.

Love Makes the Bed It Lies In is an anti-romance about cheating, lying (and its consequences), repression vs liberation, fulfilment, and strained relationships.

The year is 1964. Harold and Alan are two lovers with a seemingly normal domestic life- that is, until Harold’s recently-widowed mother and Alan’s recently-divorced old flame walk back into their lives. Join these four incredibly flawed individuals as they fall in and out of love, lock horns, iron out their creases, tie their loose ends, and find themselves tangled in a web of deception. They will make you laugh a little, cry a bit more, and most definitely keep you on the edge of your seat.

Incredibly provocative, intimate, and anxiety-inducing… Love Makes the Bed It Lies In pays homage to the kitchen sink realism movement, with a modernist touch, and set in Aotearoa. If you love the works of Harold Pinter and John Osborne, and the messy love triangles in classic queer flicks such as Sunday Bloody Sunday… you’ll LOVE Love Makes the Bed It Lies In!
