Immerse yourself in Sounds of the Sanctuary, a thoughtfully curated programme evoking the beauty of nature and birdsong by the “spellbinding”(Otago Daily Times)New Zealand String Quartet.
Acclaimed New Zealand composer Gareth Farr's Te Kōanga (Spring or planting season), celebrates life and regeneration with an “extraordinary evocation of stillness and gentle birdsong” (Stuff). Joseph Haydn’s String Quartet, Op. 64, No.5, The Lark showcases melodies that soar like thriving bird life. Dame Gillian Whitehead’s Poroporoaki (farewell) explores taonga pūoro improvisations and honours Aotearoa’s cultural and natural heritage.
And finally, Antonín Dvořák's String Quartet No. 12, Op. 96, the American Quartet captures the spirit of exploration, reflecting the diverse ecosystems within the sanctuary. Live at Zealandia, Sounds of the Sanctuary celebrates and connects us to the natural world through the power of music.
