As part of Wellington Heritage Festival, the Newtown Community Centre welcomes you into our (old… but newly renovated) theatre space – Te Whare Tapere - to watch “Newtown (and beyond) on Film.”

The wonderful folk at Ngā Taonga Sound & Vision have trawled through their archives to find a special collection of archival film (sourced from private collections, documentaries and television) that illustrate some key events in Newtown & Pōneke’s history. With footage from as far back as 1917, bringing you right through to the modern day – come learn about ‘those olden times’ and celebrate the coolest suburb in Pōneke throughout the years. The community centre team will also source a few extra videos that showcase some of the awesome projects we’ve been involved in more recently. Silent footage will be accompanied by some amazing musicians – to be announced shortly!

Tickets cost $18 waged and $10 unwaged (student, 65+, beneficiaries) with complimentary popcorn.
