Still fizzing from its key role in NZ’s World Choir Games in July, Auckland chamber choir Viva Voce now embarks on a concert that draws inspiration from that amazing event, while echoing some of its elements! And what could be a more elemental title than ‘Earth, Wind and Fire?’

In a varied programme of stunning part-songs, folksongs and popular numbers, we examine each of these natural phenomena and our human reaction to them. Our centrepiece is Morten Lauridsen’s brilliant 1988 work Madrigali: ‘Six Fire Songs’, which sets six passionate Renaissance poems to music that seems to come from both 16th and 20th centuries at once.

We’ll also reprise Anthony Ritchie’s star waiata ‘Waipunarangi’ and ‘Ururangi’ (rain and wind) from the acclaimed Games blockbuster Matariki He Kāhui Reo, as well as a certain hit song by the band Earth, Wind & Fire (no relation) from the WCG closing ceremony.

An evening of fine singing and sheer enjoyment, in the lovely acoustic of Kāhui St David’s.
