This will be the final classical music concert for 2024 in the Fairfield Community Marae, and what a very special one it is too.
The first time that traditional Chinese instruments will have been heard in this beautiful wharenui. As well as these Chinese discoveries for all of us, there will be for many in the audience, me included, the first encounter with a New Zealand composer from over a century ago, Arnold Trowell. What a discovery this will be. Although his name may be known to people very familiar with the life of Katherine Mansfield as both he and his twin brother were romantically entwined with her.
Venue: If anybody has doubts about how to find the Fairfield Marae then please contact me.
Russell Armitage: russell.armitage@gmail.com
As this concert is in a wharenui the usual custom of removing your shoes before entering will apply. There is ample room in the porch to leave them.
There will also be as usual afternoon following the concert for those who wish to have this. If you do then just add that to your ticket purchase.
Following afternoon tea Eddie Neha the Kaitiaki of the Marae will give a talk about some of the carvings in the wharenui which this time will include a special reference to the one for the Chinese community in Aotearoa/New Zealand.
