What does it mean to reclaim Māoritanga from a Pākehaa upbringing?

That's the premise of Isaac Martyn's (Ngāti Tuwharetoa, Te Arawa)show, which weaves together elements of stand-up comedy, waiata and theatrical performance to explore the complicated nature of identity informed by Martyn's own dual Māori and Pākeha lineage.

He aha? He Māori? Is he? Maybe - it depends.

“ISAAC MARTYN'S DELIVERY AND SCRIPT FEELS HONEST, FULL OF CHARISMA AND AROHA...THIS IS LOCAL THEATRE DOING WHAT IT DOES BEST – CHALLENGING US WHILE TELLING THE STORIES OF THIS LAND.”

      JOHN ANDERSON, THEATREVIEW, 2022
